A non-profit organization in Alberta that relies on its vehicle for remote spay and neuter clinics has been targeted by thieves: the culprits ripped off the catalytic converter from underneath the truck.

A converter is a large device attached to a vehicle’s exhaust system. The converter contains precious metals: platinum, palladium, and rhodium can be processed out of the catalytic converters and sold to buyers.

Calgary police said Tuesday the number of such thefts are on the rise, and the Alberta Spay and Neuter Task Force is only the latest target.
