SLOCAN, BC — The BC SPCA is putting out a public appeal after seizing several animals from the Slocan area.

The appeal is for feed following the seizure of 29 animals from a private property near Winlaw.

The property owner, Joao Vieira, is facing three counts of animal cruelty.

It’s the fourth time Vieira has been charged with animal cruelty. The three previous charges resulted in convictions.

The BC SPCA has seized nine sheep, seven goats, four horses, five large-breed dogs, two puppies, one cow and one rooster.

It says the animals were in various states of distress.

The BC SPCA says the seized animals were being kept in overcrowded and inadequate conditions and were underweight and suffering from a range of medical issues, including parasites, abscesses, heart problems, infections, overgrown nails, dental issues and eye infections.

The BC SPCA also found a dead horses, a bull and goat on the property.

Most of the animals are being kept at foster boarding facilities in the Salmo Valley while the dogs are being kept at the at the Kelowna SPCA.
