Snowboarder Mark McMorris wins gold, silver medals at X Games

Snowboarder Mark McMorris, 22, was looking to defend his titles this weekend. The Regina-born athlete was competing in the big air and slopestyle events at the 2016 X Games in Aspen, Colo.

Unfortunately for McMorris, Quebec’s Max Parrot captured gold at the big air final Friday with a total score of 93.00. With 91.00, McMorris had to settle with silver while Yuki Kadono, of Japan, got bronze with 88.00.

On Saturday, McMorris didn’t disappoint. He scored 92.66 to take the top spot on the podium in the men’s slopestyle event.

Quebec’s Sebastien Toutant had 90.00 for second place and Mons Røisland, of Norway, got third with 86.33 in the slopestyle.

McMorris won both events in 2012 and 2015. The Saskatchewan product now has six gold and six silver medals at the X Games.
