KELOWNA – The courts have dealt with a man who started a fire in a Kelowna apartment building.
The incident on Remembrance Day in 2014 forced the evacuation of Sutherland Manor.
At the time, police said an officer was doing a well-being check on a resident when he saw smoke coming from one of the units and called the fire department.
When crews approached the second floor unit there were sparks and flames coming from underneath the front door.
The door was unlocked so fire fighters were able to remove the resident and quickly extinguish the blaze.
Clinton Robert John Bara was convicted of arson in relation to inhabited property.
The judge suspended sentence while placing Bara on three years probation.
Bara was ordered to pay $25,349 in restitution for the damage caused.
