CALGARY – A local writer is launching a monthly treasure hunt where the winner will get a $500 prize.

Participants in Anders Svensson’s so-called Treasure League will receive clues guiding them to a treasure chest hidden somewhere in the city.

The chest won’t actually contain any ‘treasure‘– instead you can redeem it for $500.

“Inside the chest will be instructions on how to claim the prize,” Svensson said.

Only those who sign up to be part of the Treasure League via its website will be able to participate. Users face a $10 fee for each month they play, which Svensson hopes will off-set the prize money.

“Each round is designed to last a maximum of one month,” Svensson said, adding that each month features a different theme. “It’s sort of immersive fiction.”

“There’s nothing, really, that captures the imagination more than hidden treasure.”

Some day, if enough people are participating, Svensson said the prize might even increase.

Players can also turn to the Treasure League’s Twitter and Facebook accounts for assistance, as they will offer surprise bonus clues.

The first treasure hunt begins on Feb. 1, 2016.
