Man accused of killing Calgary mother Christa Cachene appears in court

CALGARY – The young man accused killing Calgary mother Christa Cachene made a brief court appearance on Monday.

Isaiah Rider, 19, appeared via CCTV from the Calgary Remand Centre. He is charged with second-degree murder.

Cachene, 26, was beaten to death following a house party at her Ranchlands home last year. Her body was found in the basement of the house, located in the 0-100 block of Ranchlands Bay N.W., on Oct. 11, 2015.

The case has been put over until Feb. 11 to allow time for the rest of disclosure to be given to the defence.

High-profile defence lawyer Balfour Der is representing Rider.

Rider remains in custody, but Der is seeking to have him moved from the Edmonton Remand Centre to the Calgary Remand Centre so they can discuss the case.
