Paramount and Star Wars/Star Trek director J.J. Abrams are full of surprises. Fresh off his Star Wars directorial debut, Abrams and the film studio have released a trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane, which some are speculating is a sequel to 2008’s found-footage film, Cloverfield.
Cloverfield followed a group of young adults as they tried to survive in the face of a gigantic monster attack (think Godzilla-sized) in New York City. Could 10 Cloverfield Lane be a secret sequel to Abrams’ first film?

Judging by the trailer’s content, it’s possible. Starring John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr., it looks like the film takes place inside a bunker of some sort, and whatever’s outside is not friendly.

Abrams said exclusively to Collider, “The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”

IMDb describes the plot of the film: “Waking up from a car accident, a young woman finds herself in the basement of a man who says he’s saved her life from a chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable.”
It’s a tantalizing, heart-pounding trailer. What’s outside the bunker? Why is Winstead’s character being held? Is Goodman’s character good or bad?
