MONTREAL – The Canadiens were on the ice Wednesday morning, getting ready for Thursday’s home-game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Lately though, the team has been getting attention not for what is happening on the ice, but for some unsavory off-ice behaviour.
On Tuesday, reports surfaced that forward Alex Galchenyuk’s girlfriend was arrested Sunday in a case of alleged domestic violence.

The media report said a woman turned up at Galchenyuk’s apartment on Sunday morning, a day after the Canadiens dropped a 3-1 decision to the Pittsburgh Penguins. An argument ensued, and quickly escalated.

Montreal police have confirmed they received a call from an apartment on the street where Galchenyuk lives.
The hockey player and several of his friends were there, supposedly including teammate Devante Smith-Pelly.
While Galchenyuk and Smith-Pelly were not available for comment after Tuesday’s practice, they did talk to the media on Wednesday.
At the news conference Galchenyuk apolgised for his behaviour, though neither he nor Smith-Pelly have been accused of any wrong-doing.

The Canadiens, who opened the season with a team-record nine-game winning run, find themselves battling just to stay in an NHL Eastern Conference playoff position after losing 13 of their last 18 games, without even a point or two from overtime or shootout losses.
