WINNIPEG —  Snow and cold. Manitoba hasn’t had to deal with a one, two punch like this yet this season.

A snowfall warning was issued by Environment Canada early Wednesday morning for Swan River, Duck Mountain, and Porcupine Provincial Forest. The snow will start in the night and continue to fall through Thursday leaving close to 15 cm by the end of Thursday.

Nearby areas such as Dauphin, The Pas, and even the northern Interlake region could see 5+cm from this system but it’s looking like most of southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg, will likely get less than 5 cm.

As the system clears, cold temperatures settle in. Parts of northern Manitoba will be cooling off into Wednesday afternoon but starting this weekend, southern Manitoba will cool off in a big way. While overnight temperatures will be below normal, the daytime highs will be close to normal overnight lows. Close to 10° below normal.

These temperatures will be far from record breaking but after the mild Fall/early winter season this change in our weather pattern might come as a shock to the system.
