Miramichi police laid the charge against Lafleur, who has been placed on administrative desk duty by the Fredericton force until the matter is resolved in court.

Another member, Sgt. Tim Sowers, was charged Dec. 22 with one count of uttering threats by Kennebecasis Regional Police in relation to an incident that occurred in June.

Police say further charges are expected against Sowers, who has also been placed on administrative desk duty.

An investigation will be conducted in both cases under the Police Act, once criminal proceedings are concluded.
