If you took a little break from all the Christmas festivities late last night and looked to the skies, you may have caught a glimpse of the rare Christmas Day full moon.
Although it was cloudy over many parts of Metro Vancouver overnight, a Global BC crew managed to film a timelapse of the full moon rising over Coquitlam.
The full moon peaked at 3:11 a.m. PT this morning.
It’s the first time since 1977 that a full moon made an appearance on Christmas Day. In fact, the Christmas Day full moon is so rare, the next one doesn’t occur until 2034.
This month’s full moon is called the Full Cold Moon, according to the Farmer’s Almanac.
Though this full moon is somewhat special, it isn’t a “super moon” (the closest full moon in its monthly cycle). The moon was closest — at roughly 368,417 km from Earth — on Dec. 21.
