SGI makes changes to speed camera locations

REGINA – In the nine months since the province introduced photo radar, some drivers have gotten good at figuring out which boxes have cameras.

There are two photo speed enforcement cameras in Regina, and they alternate between various camera locations in Ring Road and in school zones.

When a camera is installed in a box, there are distinct black bars on the back of the grey box. Now all of the boxes have been set up with permanent black bars whether they house a camera or not.

“It came to our attention that some drivers knew the difference a box that had a camera and one that didn’t,” said Marie Schultz, a communication consultant with SGI.

“The point of the program is to slow down traffic in all of the locations, not just where the cameras are. When we found out that drivers knew this we wanted to make sure all the boxes look the same,” she explained.

Schultz said SGI began putting the black bars on boxes a couple months ago, and finished last week.
