Shocking and amazing. Those are two words a small-town first responder is using to describe the support he’s receiving after a fire damaged and destroyed his equipment. Dale Whitford has been fighting fires in Rose Valley, Sask. for 27 years.

On Saturday morning, he received a phone call informing him the community fire hall was on fire.

The fire trucks, a quad and gear were all damaged.

Since then, numerous offers have poured in with people looking to help.

“The calls have been coming in since probably 10, 11 o’clock Saturday morning from fire departments from all over Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, B.C.,” said Whitford.

“If they can figure out a way and if we need the equipment that they have extra, we’re more than welcome to it.”

Whitford believes the fire likely started from a quad that was plugged in to a battery charger.

He hopes to find a place to store new equipment and plans to be up and running on Tuesday.
