TORONTO — Police say two “violent assaults” in two days involving brass knuckles and a metal wrench at an Oshawa, Ont. high school have left two students injured and led to three arrests.
Durham Regional Police responded to O’Neill Collegiate and Vocational Institute after a male was assaulted at about 4 p.m. on Monday.
Police said he was “challenged” by a group of males as he left the school.
One male, who police said was armed with brass knuckles, began to fight the victim while another allegedly joined in the assault as the student was being overpowered.
A 16-year-old Oshawa boy has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon.
O’Neill Collegiate and Vocational Institute student Justin Chamberlain, 18, of Alexandra Street in Oshawa, has been charged with assault.
Both were released with conditions, but the 16-year-old boy’s name cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
On Tuesday, police were called to the same school after another male student was allegedly struck across the face with a metal wrench during a fight. Police said the victim was treated for a serious cut to his face.
The suspect, who is not a student at the school, was arrested later in the day and police believe the two incidents are connected.
Another 16-year-old boy from Oshawa is charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon and two counts of failure to comply with probation. He was held for a bail hearing and cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
