Consider it a merging of science-fiction titans. Hands-down the biggest sci-fi franchises in human history, Star Wars and Star Trek are coming together, sort of.
It has been revealed that trailers for the much-hyped Star Trek Beyond, the next instalment in the Star Trek movie franchise, will be revealed during screenings of this December’s juggernaut, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

It’s not surprising that the latest film in the Star Trek series would get this treatment, considering The Force Awakens director, J.J. Abrams, was also at the helm of 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness. His production company, Bad Robot, is based at Paramount, and it helped produce Star Trek Beyond.

Star Trek Beyond will feature the return of Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as McCoy, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Chekov and John Cho as Sulu. Several new faces are joining the cast this time around, with actors Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella and Joe Taslim joining the Enterprise.
‘Star Trek Beyond’ is set for release in theatres on July 22, 2016.
‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ opens in theatres on Dec. 18, 2015.
