Saskatoon Health Region CEO taking medical leave

SASKATOON – The CEO of Saskatoon’s regional health authority is taking a leave of absence for health reasons. Don Florizone will be away for the next few months.

The health region has named Andrew Will to take over for the time being, effective immediately.

Will is CEO of the provincial shared-services health agency 3sHealth.

Will says he plans to meet with the health region’s leadership teams to review plans and finances.

“I think with the challenge, the magnitude of what we’re facing we’ll need to look at all costs and certainly the priority is finding opportunities that have less impact on patient care so that will be a strong factor as we assess different options in terms of living within our means,” said Will, Saskatoon Health Region interim president.

Earlier this month, the health region announced layoffs in light of a $45-million deficit – the largest it has ever faced.
