MONTREAL – A police operation targeting violent crime and drug trafficking in Montreal and the South Shore community of Longueuil that started Friday night is now over.
Montreal police (SPVM) said that 10 search warrants were executed overnight and that eight people were arrested.

SPVM spokesperson, Andre Lecrlerc, confirmed to Global News that some of the suspects had ties to street gangs and organized crime.
During the raid, police seized more than $100,000 in cash, as well as two firearms.
Crystal meth, pot, cocaine and amphetamines were also seized during the raid.

A similar police operation targeting organized crime led to 48 arrests just over a week ago.

Police said that while the search warrants have all been executed, the investigation is still ongoing.
