Self-serve kiosk program that speeds screening of airport passengers to expand

VANCOUVER – Returning to Canada from a foreign trip will soon be as simple as ABC at many Canadian airports as the federal government expands a pilot program at Vancouver International Airport that uses self-serve kiosks to screen passengers.

The program is known as ABC, for Automated Border Clearance.

Heritage Minister James Moore says the program at Vancouver airport has shown the kiosks speed up processing and reduce wait times for passengers.

Travellers use the terminals to scan their passports and declaration forms before they move on to a border services officer.

The kiosks allow up to four people who live at the same address to be processed in a single transaction if they’re listed on the same declaration card.

Moore says the terminals will be set up in other airports that handle international flights, beginning with Montréal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport in June.
