EDMONTON – A suspect in an Edmonton homicide case from 2014 is finally in custody. Luqman Osman, 26, was arrested by police in Montreal on November 5th after a routine traffic stop.

Osman was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant on several charges relating to the shooting death of Bekri Mohamed.

Mohamed died on November 5, 2014 in a shooting at Papyrus Lounge near downtown Edmonton. Officers found the 31-year-old man lying dead on the floor of the club suffering a gunshot wound. Osman avoided police for several months before being arrested exactly one year after the shooting.

Osman has been charged with second-degree murder, along with several weapons charges and five breaches of probation. Osman was arrested in connection to a gas-station robbery in 2009, and was sentenced to 2 years in prison.

Osman was also a suspect in a shooting at the Ethiopian-Canadian Community Association on New Year’s Day 2014. No one was hurt in the shooting. Osman later turned himself into police.

He was on bail from the New Years shooting when the Papyrus Lounge incident took place. That prompted Edmonton police homicide section Staff Sgt. Bill Clark to speak out, calling the bail conditions a joke.

WATCH: Canada-wide warrants have been issued for an Edmonton man wanted in connection with Wednesday’s fatal shooting. As Shallima Maharaj reports, police are wondering why the suspect was out on bail. (Story initially aired on November 6, 2014.)
