Calgary police are looking for a 30-year-old Calgary man who they believe is linked to a mid- to high-level drug operation that could be connected to recent violent crimes in the city.
Wael Hammoud, who also goes by Ali Hammoud, is wanted on warrants for numerous drug and weapons offences after about $225,000 worth of drugs and numerous weapons were seized from two northeast apartments. Police describe him as being about five feet five inches tall, about 100 lbs, with a slim build and black hair.
Police executed two warrants at apartments in the 7200 block of 80 Avenue N.E. on Monday. Police seized 42 rounds of ammunition, five guns, $37,940 in cash, crack cocaine, marijuana, fentanyl and cocaine, as well as drug manufacturing equipment.
“These apartments were solely maintained for the production of controlled substances: making drugs and selling drugs.” Staff Sgt. Quinn Jacques said.
Sam Osama Altenawe, 25, has also been charged with counts related to possession for the purpose of trafficking and unauthorized possession of a firearm in the investigation. He is set to appear in court Dec. 7.
“We are looking at these search warrants and seizure of the guns and drugs as another installment in this ongoing battle back and forth between two or more gangs within Calgary over the drug trade,” Jacques said. “I suspect all these incidents are related on some level.”
The investigation continues.
Anyone with information about Hammoud’s whereabouts is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
