TORONTO – A 28-year-old London, Ont. man who was “mistakenly released” from a city courthouse on Wednesday is back in police custody.
The London Police Service said Raymond Versteeg reappeared at the courthouse for a previously scheduled court date Thursday morning.
Police said they do not know if he attended court by himself or accompanied by a lawyer.

Versteeg was facing breach of probation charges on Wednesday when he somehow managed to leave the courthouse in the afternoon while court was still in session.
“A mistake was made and we’re investigating how it happened and how to prevent it in the future,” said Const. Ken Steeves.

Police issued a public alert late Wednesday as Versteeg posed a risk to public safety based on his criminal record.
Versteeg was charged in connection with a 2010 break-and-enter in which his co-accused pulled a shotgun on police officers.
He plead guilty to break-and-enter charges and served 90 days, while the other charges in that case were withdrawn.
