Montrealer faces charges after video threatens to ‘kill one Arab a week’
Jesse Pelletier was arrested after threatening to "kill one Arab a week" in a Youtube video.
MONTREAL – Jesse Pelletier, 24, is facing charges in connection to an anti-Muslim Youtube video where he is seen wearing a Joker mask and speaking in a low voice.
In the video, which was made following Friday’s attacks in Paris, Pelletier promised to “kill one Arab a week.”
Montreal and Quebec provincial police tracked the video to Pelletier’s home in Montreal North and took him in for questioning.
He appeared in court Wednesday afternoon.
Pelletier faces charges of uttering threats, using a fake weapon and inciting fear and making a declaration against an ethnic group.
“For him, it was a joke. A bad joke obviously,” said defence attorney Audrey Amzallaq.
“He did not mean anything on the video and obviously when he realized the impact that it had, he took it off.”
The video has since been taken down.
Pelletier is expected back in court Monday; his lawyer said he will likely enter a not guilty plea.
