SASKATOON – There is a massive sign of progress at the construction site for the future Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan. Two months after breaking ground, a pair of towering cranes are in place to help move materials at the work site. One crane rises 72 metres from the ground, while the other is 56 metres tall.
“One of the constraints we have on this particular site is the ability to get materials into the construction zone. It’s really a ‘just in time’ delivery,” said Craig Ayers, project director for the Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan.

The cranes will be used to move equipment and supplies from the perimeter of the site into the construction zone.
“I think when people see the activity on the site, they realize that the construction is real and it pulls together why we built it in the first place,” said Brynn Boback-Lane, president and CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan.
So far, about $50 million has been raised by the foundation, with another $25 million remaining to be raised. In total, the project is expected to cost $285.2 million.
The hospital is about three per cent complete, with the facility expected to open in 2019.
