Garth Brooks throws support behind Sask. kid’s hospital

SASKATOON – A country music superstar was in Saskatoon Wednesday, but not for a concert. Instead, Garth Brooks was in town to support the new children’s hospital.

Through his foundation, Teammates for Kids, Brooks is helping to raise money for the Child Life Zone at the hospital that is under construction.

The zone at the Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan will be the first in Canada.

“Really proud to launch our first international zone outside the U.S., so it’s a big day for us,” Brooks told reporters.

The state-of-the-art therapeutic play area for pediatric patients and their families will give kids a place to play, learn, laugh and relax. Brooks said it will give children the chance to be children while they are being treated, not patients.

“It’s about turning a hospital from grey walls into colour … and the greatest thing about the zone is the treatment, you allow children to be children.”

As for why he is support a zone in Saskatchewan?
