Winnipeg Police respond to two separate shootings Wednesday evening

WINNIPEG — A man was taken to hospital in critical condition Wednesday evening after being shot in Winnipeg’s St.Boniface neighbourhood.

About a dozen police cruisers were on scene at the 200 block of Provencher Boulevard Wednesday around 5:30 p.m.

Police were canvassing residents in the area and had an apartment complex and a few homes taped off in St. Boniface near St Jean Baptiste Street.

Winnipeg police confirmed Thursday morning, a man had been shot and taken to hospital.  The man’s condition has been upgraded to stable.  There are no arrests at this time.

A restaurant manager next door said Wednesday he was asked by police if he saw anyone fleeing a home. He also said there has been police activity at that residence before.

“I have seen police cars at that same location before, nothing quite that intense,” Jonathon Pearson from Chaise Cafe said. “There were 12 or 13 police cars tonight, but I have seen them down the street before for sure.”

The scene was clear by 9 p.m. Wednesday.  Winnipeg police continue to investigate.

And shortly after the shooting in St.Boniface, officers were called to another shooting on Elgin Avenue.  A man was found with a gunshot wound and rushed to hospital in critical condition. He has also been upgraded to stable.

Police have not made an arrest in this incident, but officers remain on scene Thursday morning, continuing their investigation.
