Does the latest ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ trailer contain a big spoiler?

Master Yoda once warned of the dangers of trying to predict the future.

But at the risk of upsetting the balance in the Force, a new TV spot for the highly-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens contains plenty of new footage – as well as a possible spoiler regarding the true identity of one of the main characters.

As was the case in a previous promo spot, the latest trailer features a voice over from Lupita Nyong’o’s Maz Kanata, and begins with a shot of Daisy Ridley’s Rey, one of the new trilogy’s central protagonists.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“I have lived long enough to see the same eyes in different people,” Nyong’o intones, before a close up shot of Rey’s eyes fade to those of Harrison Ford’s Han Solo.

This lends credence to popular fan theories that Rey is Solo’s daughter, assumedly with Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia.

No official confirmation has been provided yet, and as Obi-Wan Kenobi once warned: “Only a Sith deals in absolutes”.

The incredible buzz around the film has already caused an unprecedented rush of early ticket sales, as fans young and old await their chance to return to a galaxy far, far away.

“This is the highest demand for advance tickets that we’ve seen in our history for any opening weekend,” Pat Marshall of Cineplex Entertainment told Global News.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in North America on Dec. 18.
