Calgary Humane Society and Kijiji hope to make online pet adoptions safer

The Calgary Humane Society and Kijiji Canada have teamed up to help improve the safety of pet adoptions and sales online.

Beginning this month, The Humane Society will certify Kijiji.ca listings with a stamp of approval through their new breeder inspection program.

The new program will inspect and certify reputable Calgary and area breeders. As part of the program, breeders will undergo an inspection that looks at the health of the animals and the environment they’re in, as well as the breeder’s business practices.

There will also be follow-up inspections to make sure the breeder’s remain in good standing.

“Approxi¬mately 1,100 pet listings in Calgary and surrounding areas will be reviewed to launch the certification process,” said Zac Candelario, General Manager, Kijiji Canada in a news release.
