Carrie Brownstein wears a lot of hats — she fronts a rock band, stars in a television show and has written a book. You can also add experienced wedding officiant to that list after a random request from a pair of fans.
The Portlandia star is currently on a book tour to promote Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl: A Memoir and was hosting a related event with Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler Tuesday at a church in Pasadena, California. That’s when fans Kendall Oshiro and Genevieve Hernandez caught her by surprise.
Brownstein was asked to marry them — right then and there. It turns out she recently got her license in order to marry friends.
“We just thought of it as like a chance we were going to take, kind of like a joke, because we figured they’d be really polite and (say) ‘Oh no, but thank you, we appreciate it,'” Oshiro told CBS.
But as luck would have it, the Sleater-Kinney frontwoman agreed and moments later Poehler was rushing over to a church floral display to create bouquets for both brides.
“(It was) kind of a dream come true, and a dream we haven’t woken up from yet,” Oshiro added.
Poehler was even able to set the mood after hopping on the piano to play English folk song ‘Greensleeves’ – explaining it’s the only song she knows.
The capacity crowd eventually erupted in applause when Oshiro and Hernandez were announced as a married couple.
Their challenge now — how in the world can the honeymoon top this?
