BOWMANVILLE, Ont. – Important note: you can’t split the blame for impaired driving. Instead, you just double the trouble.

Durham Regional Police arrested two women Sunday for allegedly drunk-driving the same car.

Police say a witness spotted a SUV running a red light at Dundas Street East and Thickson Road in Whitby at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle continued eastbound and nearly collided with several cars as it weaved between lanes, according to police.

After several close calls, the passenger and driver were seen switching places before continuing forward and nearly rear-ending another car.

The driver then pulled into a coffee shop in Oshawa where officers arrested the two women.

Elisha Burke, 23, and Cassandra McDougall, 22, both of Bowmanville are charged with impaired operation of a vehicle.
