Shortly after the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that processed meat increases the risk of cancer, social media users expressed grief, confusion, and anger over the latest findings.
Eating meats such as hot dogs, sausages, bacon, ham, and beef jerky increases the risk of colorectal cancer, said the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a part of the WHO Monday morning.
The agency gave processed meat the same classification as cigarettes and asbestos.
Shortly have WHO’s announcement, the hashtag #FreeBacon began to trend worldwide on Twitter, presumably over the agency’s findings.
Some on Twitter had no idea why #FreeBacon was trending.
Some thought something happened to actor Kevin Bacon.
Mmm bacon.
