2 dead, 4 injured in separate Saskatchewan rollovers

Two people are dead and four others have been injured after two rollovers Sunday evening in Saskatchewan. The first happened around 8 p.m. CT when a vehicle rolled near Avonhurst, Sask.

The driver of the vehicle, a 64-year-old Fort Qu’Appelle man, was taken to hospital by STARS air ambulance. He was later pronounced dead at hospital. His name has not been released.

Four other people in the vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The second happened around 10 p.m. CT when a semi hauling cattle rolled on Highway 4 near Stewart Valley, Sask. Police say the crash happened at a curve in the highway.

The driver, a 69-year-old Yorkton man, was transported by EMS to meet a STARS air ambulance but died before he could be transported by STARS to hospital. His name has not been released.

Around 40 cattle died as a result of the rollover. Another 40 cattle survived the crash and local ranchers are helping police in rounding them up.

Traffic is down to one lane in each direction and Mounties expect the highway will be partially blocked for most of the day while crews clean-up the scene.

Mounties continue to investigate.
