Mother charged with attempted murder in stabbing of 6-year-old daughter in London, Ont.

TORONTO — A six-year-old girl is in critical condition and her mother has been charged with attempted murder after the girl was stabbed several times in the abdomen at an apartment building in London, Ont. on Thursday.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing at 114 Arbour Glen Cres. Thursday morning and located the girl in an apartment unit.

The girl was rushed to hospital where she underwent surgery for numerous stab wounds. She remains in critical condition in hospital.

The girl’s mother, 29-year-old Erica Ehikwe, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with attempted murder. She is in custody awaiting a court appearance.

A woman who identified herself as the victim’s stepmother has confirmed to Global News that Ehikwe is a singer and student who lives in London with her daughter at 114 Arbour Glen Cres.

The woman said that Ehikwe may have suffered from a mental health issue, adding that the girl’s father was currently in Nigeria and would be returning to Toronto.

A biography posted online of an Ontario-based singer named “Ehikwe” stated that she was born in Nigeria to a Nigerian father and an Indian mother and that she moved with both parents to Toronto at the age of five.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the London Police Service at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
