Freelance cameraman Kevin MacDonald, who works for Global BC, was filming outside the Abbotsford homeless camp on Wednesday when a resident of the camp approached him.

The woman was angry and upset that he was filming the camp and its residents. She was holding a can of bear spray while interacting with MacDonald. Before walking away she sprays some from the can.

Abbotsford Police now say the woman in the video has been arrested and they are recommending a charge of assault with a weapon.

The homeless community in Abbotsford won the right on Wednesday to camp overnight in city parks, in a legal victory that one advocate says matters for all of Canada.

B.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice Christopher Hinkson ruled that homeless people in Abbotsford are allowed to erect temporary shelters in parkland between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. because of a lack of accessible shelter space in the city.
