Alberta PCs trail well behind other parties in Q3 fundraising

EDMONTON – The amount of money the Alberta Progressive Conservatives are pulling in has dropped drastically in the third quarter, compared to donations during the election campaign.

Between July and September, the PCs raised $15,575.50, less than all the other major parties.

During the election campaign, the PCs collected $259,636 in fundraising.

Between July and September, the most donations were collected by the Wildrose. The Official Opposition raised $263,675.84. In the second quarter (during the election campaign), the Wildrose raised $269,356.

The NDP collected the next highest amount in Q3. The governing party received $82,745.78, compared to the $269,730.61 it drummed up during the campaign.

The Liberals raised $29,285.76 between July and September, compared to $13,643.74 collected in the previous quarter.

In May’s provincial election, the NDP stomped out a 44-year PC dynasty. Rachel Notley became premier and Jim Prentice resigned.

The only party that saw more donations in Q3 than it did during the election campaign was the Liberal party.

This is the first report since changes were made to political fundraising rules, which banned donations from corporations and unions.
