SASKATOON – The cost of the new Remai Art Gallery is likely going up, and its opening is going to be delayed. The details are contained in a report going to Saskatoon city council’s executive committee.
The report says the cost of constructing the gallery is going to jump from $83 million to almost $88 million. The city will have to find an extra $3.5- to $4.5-million to finish the project.
The increase is blamed on design coordination issues that have delayed work and raised the cost.

The reports states attempts have been made to look at cost reductions in other areas of the project, and although there has been roughly $375,000 in savings, it is unlikely other cost reductions will be found given the current stage of construction.
It also means that instead of opening in the fall of 2016, the gallery likely won’t open until early 2017.
