An alleged drunk driver is also facing a hefty speeding fine. Mounties say the 27-year-old man was clocked doing 185 km/h on Highway 11 near Prince Albert, Sask.
He was one of 1,094 speeders nabbed during “Operation Impact,” an enforcement initiative that took place over the Thanksgiving long weekend to make Saskatchewan roads safer. Mounties said another 18 drivers were doing at least 148 km/h.

Police say there were 2,223 violations recorded among the 4,913 drivers who were stopped in their jurisdiction during the three day operation.
Along with the speeding violations, Mounties charged 46 drivers with impaired driving, handed out 42 seatbelt violations, and issued seven tickets for careless driving.

“Each driver should remember that they aren’t the only ones traveling on Saskatchewan’s roadways,” said Staff Sgt. Stephane Caron, commander of north central Saskatchewan traffic services for the RCMP.
“Let’s all do our part to ensure everyone reaches their destination safely.”
