Man faces charges after breaking in and restraining woman in apartment building

HALIFAX – One man is facing charges after an incident involving the forcible confinement of a female victim in her own apartment building Tuesday morning.

Police say they responded to a break and enter at a residence in the 1000 block of Barrington Street at 1:13 a.m. on Tuesday.

A man the female victim did not know had offered to walk her home from the Blowers Street area earlier that night, and once arriving at her Barrington Street apartment, he forced himself inside her building and restrained her in the hallway.

The woman was able to call police.

When officers arrived, the suspect still had the woman restrained and he had to be physically removed by police.

The victim wan’t physically injured in the incident.

The suspect, 26-year-old Craig John McPhee of Halifax, was arrested and held in custody overnight. He was scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Tuesday to face charges of break and enter, assault and forcible confinement.
