EDMONTON – Several hundred people were not able to go to work Monday morning, ironically after the power went out in EPCOR tower.

Tim LeRiche, a spokesperson for the utility company that supplies power to Edmonton, said the electrical failure happened Sunday night.

The property manager was doing some work on the downtown highrise when a “water escape” took out power to most of the building.

Power was restored to some of the 28 floor building, but there were still areas without power.

LeRiche said some tenants came to work on Monday, but EPCOR asked its approximately 600 onsite employees to work from home or an alternate site. He added that some customers may experience service delays while power is restored.

EPCOR crews were on site on Monday and the property manager hoped to have the issues fixed by Tuesday morning.

Epcor doesn’t own the building on 101st Street north of 104th Avenue, but is the primary tenant.
