New Westminster Police were on scene for hours, dealing with an ‘incident’ on the bridge. Front Street was also closed.

The bridge is now open in both directions.

New Westminster Police have notified the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) about the incident and they are investigating. The IIO investigates police-involved incidents that result in death or serious harm. They have not revealed any further details about the nature of the incident.

The closure did cause a nightmare for commuters and not only those in a car. There were long lineups at the Scott Road SkyTrain station for people who needed to get across the bridge and could not drive.
