KELOWNA — Motorists are being reminded they need to be “winter ready’ right now.
Winter tire rules go into effect in B.C. as of today.
You need to have winter tires mounted on your vehicles if you plan to travel on highways at higher altitudes where you will encounter snow and ice such as the Coquihalla.
WATCH: What defines a proper winter tire?
Those tires must have a Mountain Snowflake or Mud and Snow symbol on them and must have a minimum tread depth of 3.5 mm.
Fines for not having snow tires are $121 and for improper tread depth $109.
