WINNIPEG – It’s a weekend full of spirit at St. Amant.

The annual Free the Spirit Festival was held Saturday in the Buhler Gardens behind St. Amant at 440 River Road.

Organizers said this year’s free festival will be bigger than in the past. Families were invited to attend and take part in a petting zoo and pony rides.

There was also live music, games and face painting available.

New this year is an artisans’ market which showcased 25 vendors.

“You don’t have to know someone with a disability to know that everyone needs friendship, a connection to our community and a chance to give of themselves,” said festival co-chair Patrick Cloutier, who is supported by St.Amant’s Supported independent Living Program, in a release.

The annual event raises money for the St. Amant Foundation. Last year more than $175,000 was raised and organizers are hoping to beat that number this year.

Proceeds from the Free the Spirit Festival will go towards four funding priorities for individuals living with developmental disabilities and autism, which include recreational opportunities; personal items; education; and the St.Amant Leisure Guide.
