FALL RIVER, NS – A highly controversial quarry in Fall River has gotten the go-ahead from the Nova Scotia Department of Environment , a press release said Tuesday.
The approval, granted to Scotian Materials Ltd., will allow for a quarry under four hectares on Perrin Drive near Fall River, and includes terms and conditions to ensure the environment and public health are protected.
Some of the conditions include monitoring requirements for ground and surface water, dust monitoring, noise level limits and blasting limitations.
The company will also have to establish a community liaison committee that includes representation from the area.

The release states that projects like these are addressed and approved by government staff, and that quarries under four hectares don’t require ministerial approval or notification.
