UPDATE: Homicide investigation underway after body found in burned vehicle north of Calgary

CALGARY – The RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation into a vehicle fire north of Calgary on Friday.

The vehicle was found in a ditch along Township Road 280 and Range Road 283, northeast of Airdrie, at around 7 a.m.

Officials with Rocky View County said in an 11 a.m. news release that a body was found inside the vehicle, however, RCMP said they cannot confirm that pending forensic testing.

RCMP confirmed Friday night a person’s body was found inside the vehicle. Officers believe the person is the victim of a homicide.

The person’s identity has not yet been released. Police said an autopsy has been scheduled for early next week.
