Curtis files for divorce.

 

Decmeber 31, 2009 

Curtis moves out.  The kids stay with Allyson.  Curtis has visitation rights Tuesdays, Thursday, and three weekends per month.

 

 Monday, February 1, 2010 

RCMP are called to a home in Millet after Curtis McConnell discovered the bodies of his two sons in home.  According to a neighbour, the bodies were found in the bathroom of the house.

“I ran up into the bathroom, turned on the light, pulled the kids out of the bathtub.  They were laying on the floor, I’ll never get that image out of my mind,”  the neighbour told Global News.
 
 

Tuesday, February 2, 2010 

Police confirm a car found in a parking lot in Edmonton is connected to the boys’ deaths but did not release any details.  It would later become known the car was Allyson McConnell’s, the boys’ mother, who just hours after the discovery of the bodies, tried to kill herself by jumping off a bridge.  Neighbours report the couple had been separated and Allyson wanted to return to her home country of Australia.

Police charge the boys’ mother Allyson Louise McConnell, 31, with 2 counts of second degree murder.

Tuesday, April 6, 2010 

Allyson McConnell is transferred to Alberta Hospital for a mental health assessment.

 Thursday, June 3, 2010 

Alberta Hospital doctors are given another 60 days to evaluate McConnell’s health.  It is the third time the case had been put over because McConnell was unable to leave the hospital.

 

Thursday, July 29, 2010 

A psychiatric assessment finds Allyson McConnell fit to stand trial on charges she murdered her two sons.

 

Monday, March 12, 2012 

The trial of Allyson McConnell begins in Wetaskiwin court.  McConnell pleads not guilty.  In an agreed statement of facts, McConnell admits to drowning her two children.  The trial will focus on why it happened.

Tuesday, March 13, 2012 

Curtis McConnell, the father of Jayden and Connor, testified he was called by police that his wife had fallen off a bridge.  He rushed home and found the children floating in the bathtub.

“I just dropped to my knees,” McConnell told the court, “I reached into the water. The water is cold, I could feel something in there. They were so cold and stiff. I have to pull them out. She just left them there to rot.”

Neighbours testify Allyson McConnell was showing signs of depression and had started giving away clothes, a carseat and a camera.

“She appeared mad at times,” Tracy Malloy told the court, adding the divorce between Allyson and Curtis McConnell seemed to be weighing heavily on her, “She seemed depressed about it for sure. Bitter at times.”

“She was not allowed to leave Millet,” Marless Litzenberger testified, “It seemed to me she felt very trapped there.”

Crown wraps up case with testimony from the Medical Examiner who confirms Jayden and Connor died from drowning.

Monday, March 19, 2012 

Allyson McConnell takes the stand in her own defence.  She describes years of suicide attempts since being sexually assaulted by her father and getting pregnant with his child.  She also says she does not remember drowning her two boys.

 

Tuesday, March 20, 2012 

The psychiatrist treating Allyson McConnell since she was admitted to the Alberta Hospital takes the stand.  He testifies she likely killed her children as an extension of her own suicide.  The defence wraps up its case.

Allyson McConnell is found not guilty of second degree murder but is found guilty of manslaughter in the deaths of her two sons.

 

Monday, June 4, 2012

Allyson McConnell is sentenced to 6 years for two counts of manslaughter to be served concurrently. She will receive 2
for 1 credit for time served. Therefore, her total sentence is 15 months.
