TORONTO – A man who turned himself into police in connection to the shooting death of a Toronto teenager in Jamaica over the weekend has been formally charged with murder.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force issued a release saying Omar “Judge” James was charged after he turned himself into police on Tuesday morning.
“He was questioned in the presence of his attorney where he was subsequently arrested and charged,” the release said.
Authorities said Ricardo Williams of Scarborough, Ont. was shot at a wake after explosions were reported around 1:51 a.m. local time in the Kingston area on Sunday.
Williams was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
James was initially identified as a person on interest connected to the shooting.
Police have said Williams was visiting family in Jamaica at the time of his death.
