Snowflake was taken to the Winnipeg Humane Society after both the dog and its owner, Wade Newman, suffered burns. The two were involved in an accident when Newman, who was driving a semi-trailer truck, crashed into an excavator. Snowflake was rescued by her owner.

“The relationship between the two is so loving,” said Dr. Erika Anseeuw, the humane society’s director of animal health. “When the owner comes to visit Snowflake just lights up.”

The Winnipeg Humane Society started a fundraising page to raise $20,000 for Snowflake’s medical treatments, a goal that has been met. Once the procedures are finished, Snowflake will go back to her permanent home.

“I think this story just reminds people of the love they have for their pets, especially since the owner was injured trying to save [her],” said Anseeuw.
