Sylvie Roy leaves CAQ, will stay as independent

MONTREAL – Sylvie Roy, a longtime MNA and star candidate for Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), is leaving the party.

In an interview, she said she no longer sees eye-to-eye with party leader François Legault and will sit as an independent.

Roy was first elected in 2003 with the CAQ’s predecessor, the ADQ, in the riding of Lotbinière near Quebec City.

She now represents the riding of Arthabaska, between Quebec City and Trois-Rivières.

Roy, a lawyer by trade, is the third candidate to leave the CAQ since the 2014 election.

Christian Dubé took a job at the Caisse de Depôt and Gérard Deltell is running as a federal Conservative candidate.
