CALGARY – A bear advisory is in effect for Alberta’s Lac des Arcs campground due to “several bears” in the area who are feeding on berries in and around the campground, according to Alberta Environment and Parks.
The Parks department said calm behaviour is best when encountering a bear, and suggests screaming or sudden movements can trigger an attack. You should not run, but be prepared to use bear or pepper spray if you have it.
“Bears may approach or stand on their hind legs to get a better look at you or to pick up your scent. This is their way of identifying you and is not an aggressive response,” said the web page on bear encounters.
