CALGARY – The Town of Okotoks has announced the tentative purchase of 40 acres of land which may some day house a new high school.

The land is located just north of the town, on the west side of 32 Street across from Holy Trinity School. It’s currently owned by the Wedderburn family, but is conditionally sold pending consent by the MD of Foothills.

“A portion of this land has been earmarked to meet the growing need for education facilities and is well suited for a new high school,” said a Wednesday news release. “The Town will work closely with the local school divisions to determine their future needs and priorities.”

“The vision is to have an area where education facilities are in close proximity to a variety of recreation and cultural amenities,” explained Mayor Bill Robertson.

Officials say the land could be developed within the next one to two years.
