‘My life didn’t matter anymore’: RCMP members deliver powerful message about PTSD

EDMONTON — A video posted to YouTube in July delivers a strong message by RCMP members about the impact of PTSD.

The 13-minute video features nine current and retired RCMP members detailing the impact PTSD has had on their careers and lives.

One member said the effects of the mental disorder caused her to feel as if life wasn’t worth living.

“I felt like I was dying inside and it’s not who I used to be,” she added.

The video was uploaded by Vancouver-based mental health advocate Lori Wilson. An excerpt below the video reads “This video was produced in the hopes of reaching new members who may not know the effects of PTSD, those who may be in the initial stages and do not understand what is happening to them or senior members who have been suffering in silence for years.”

The primary message in the video is “you are not alone.”
